The Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) is famed for its blue and white porcelain. In this video, Curator Jessica Harrison-Hall takes us on a tour through five porcelain pieces.
Beginning with a saucer from the Hongwu period, she tells of the emperor who established the Dynasty. Once so poor he had to beg for land to bury his parents, by the the age of 40 Hongwu ruled China. Discover why the porcelain from his time was paler than those typical of later examples from the Dynasty.
