Bringing the British Museum to our American friends.

The American Friends of the British Museum aims to raise awareness of the British Museum's work, both for the benefit of Americans in the US and those living abroad, while supporting the life and growth of the Museum.

American Friends programmes and projects

The American Friends of the British Museum is a publicly supported, tax-exempt organisation under section 501 (c) (3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code and is eligible to receive charitable contributions of cash, objects and stocks.

The organisation was founded in 1989 and since then has contributed to a wide range of programmes and projects including:

  • Special exhibitions
  • Scholarly symposia
  • Acquisitions
  • Staff positions in curatorial and learning departments
