We will process your personal data on a contract basis, based on what is necessary to fulfil the terms of your Patron membership. For example, your personal data will be used by us to update you on the Museum’s work and the impact of your support, and to keep you informed about the exclusive Patron events programme and wider benefits that patronage brings. 

If you have elected to receive additional emails from us on areas of interest to you, we shall process your personal data on the basis of your consent.  We shall send you these emails for the duration of your Patron membership unless you have told us that you no longer wish to receive them.  You can unsubscribe from receiving these emails  at any time by contacting us by email at patrons@britishmuseum.org, by telephone on +44 (0)20 7323 8134 (office hours only) or by post to: Patrons Office, The British Museum, Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3DG.

We will only share your personal data for the purposes set out above between the companies owned and controlled by the Trustees of the British Museum. We may also from time to time share your data with a third party if this is necessary for the performance of our contract with you.  For example, we may use an external printing firm or mailing house to send out The British Museum Magazine, which you receive as part of your Patron benefits. We will keep your personal data for 7 years from the date when your Patron membership ends after which it will be securely destroyed.
